Part 2 Objectives

People often say that when you argue you should define your terms. Let's think about clarity and definitions in this module. You may be surprised to discover that it is usually not necessary or even possible to give mathematically precise definitions of most terms. In fact, it is a fallacy to demand over-precise definitions!

By the end of Part 2, you should be able to identify and explain the following terms:

  1. Read Conway and Munson Chapters 8 and 9.

  2. Then read Open and Closed Concepts and the Continuum Fallacy.

  3. Do the Selftest for Part 2.

  4. Read Essay Assignment for Part 2.

  5. Write a first draft of the essay assignment for Part 2.
